CENTURY FARMHOUSE CEILING TRANSFORMED INTO WALL ART

The farmhouse was undergoing major renovation, with one client removing an original tin ceiling and disposing of it while, at the same time, a second is seeking something unique as fireplace chimney art. So, why not salvage something historic and lovely, and reclaim it? Perfect! The tin was stripped to bare metal, antiqued to add depth, enhance detail, and to complement our client's colour scheme. A local frame shop provided a minimal mounting frame for easy hanging and to fully support the tin.

The results were precisely what our client was hoping for - "Art with a Story"

COUNTRY HOME REQUIRING PRIVACY ON FRONTAGE AND DRAPERIES TO FRAME A PANORAMIC WATER VIEW

Decorated in classic style, this bright and sunny master bedroom enjoys a superb lake view. Our challenge was to maintain the integrity of the room's design while providing sun and UV protection, as well as privacy on the building's frontage.

In order to best frame the splendid view, we installed blackout-lined silk draperies on all three windows and, on the front-facing window, added wood cafe shutters to control light, view and privacy.

FAMILY ROOM ADDITION: SPACE TRANSFORMATION ABOVE EXISTING GARAGE

Custom cabinetry with need for an extra bed! Not just any bed, however, but an innovative motorized system that enables the bed to crawl down the wall and out into the room from behind the media center. The bottom panel of the cabinet transforms into a headboard accommodating a queen size mattress. Check out www.zoom-room.com to see this great system in operation.

Zoom bed and Hunter Douglas Silhouette shades throughout the room are controlled remotely.

LUXURY BATHROOM - THE ULTIMATE ROOM FOR RELAXATION

Second only in beauty to the magnificent Turkish Hamam, this new bathroom was designed to provide the ultimate in comfort and functionality.

A crisp, pristine effect was achieved by combining Carrera marble mosaic flooring, counter top, and shower enclosure with a custom-built solid wood maple vanity unit, traditional soaker tub, Perrin & Rowe fixtures and heated towel rack. We chose Pratt & Lambert 29-26 Armoury to complement the fixtures and fittings. Privacy along with softly diffused day-lighting was achieved by use of motorized Silhouette window shades from Hunter Douglas.

As can be seen for the "before" images, the entrance foyer and staircase in this wonderful Art Deco residence was in dire need of a makeover! We transformed an otherwise dark area into a bright and welcoming space. Still wishing to retain the spirit of the overall architecture of the building, we replaced the high mahogany-faced plywood cladding with lighter hardwood paneling, repaired all plastered surfaces previously covered by plywood, replaced the newel post and spindles to conform with other changes, laid a new wool stair carpet, added a wonderful period chandelier, replaced all doors in the upper hall, and repainted the entire space a light neutral colour. Both foyer and staircase have now become stunning features at the very heart of this magnificent old family home.

ART DECO BATHROOM NEEDING A FINISHING TOUCH

This virtually untouched deco bathroom was repainted using a monochrome gray/white palette. It required only a window covering respectful of the room's minimal design to provide both efficient temperature control and privacy.

We selected a custom-made classic Roman shade in a dramatic dark gray figured fabric as the perfect finishing touch. Truly a case of "The Less the Better".

Along with several other upgrades, this major renovation involved demolishing an enormous fieldstone corner fireplace, and placing a large new window in the same general area of the living/dining room. By replacing the old fireplace with an efficient horizontal gas unit along with a sleek ledge stone surround, we increased both the available space and the amount of natural light able to flood into the space. The addition of modern lighting, custom furnishings, a brighter colour palette, new accents and art works completely transformed what had previously been a dark room into the perfect space for everyday living, as well as for entertaining family and friends.
