A million thank-you to Laurie for helping guide us through the colour selection process for our bathroom reno! I designed and installed a two-wall birch forest tile mosaic. The background tile is bright green (but on close inspection is actually made up of many different shades of green in stripes). With the other walls being orange we were really stumped in terms of how to proceed with painting the wainscoting, chair rail, door casing, baseboard, and plant shelves which topped the tile near the ceiling. Having worked with Laurie many times before, we know she has a fantastic eye for colour and always gives great advice. We are so pleased with the colour she created (and mixed!) We would never have thought of matching the green in the tile, but the colour she chose made the transition between the mosaic and all of the tricky elements seamless! She matched a very challenging colour perfectly, and turned a potential Romper Room Circus bathroom into a real work of art!

Scott and I have been so so pleased with the help Laurie has given us in decorating our home. Laurie is very creative, fun to work with, and has amazing colour sense. She recently helped us bring cohesiveness to our large high ceiling "great" room. A dining and sitting space with a wood stove that was disjointed and lacking warmth and coziness, is now just the opposite. Reclaimed ceiling tin was found, stripped, then antiqued, and mounted to hang beautifully on our chimney. A one of a kind piece that visitors to our house keep admiring. An area rug, a round end table that Laurie did a "tea" stain on, a fabric covered coffee table with custom legs that Laurie designed and stained, a mirror and pillows are all items she brought in. Function was considered not just the aesthetics. Also our house was built in the 1950's - decorating was tastefully done ion keeping with the general look of the whole house. In a nutshell, I'd use leclair-hyett design again in a heartbeat! Many, many thanks!!!

The skills of Catherine hyett of leclair-hyett design were invaluable in making my home a source of positive comments from everybody who has entered it. I made the commitment to have a new home built. When the contractor called to get my colour choices I was overwhelmed. A friend, who had previously consulted with leclair-hyett suggested I contact Catherine. A task that appeared elephantine quickly became a pleasure. While still under construction, Catherine visited the home, asked astute questions, spent time determining the orientation of light, suggested colour alternatives and most importantly, exercised extreme patience with my indecision. Naturally, once the wall pallet was determined there were questions I had with regard to flooring and kitchen cabinet requirements. The blend of ceramic and hardwood flooring and kitchen cabinet stains blended creatively with the wall selections Catherine had suggested. Very shortly after I moved in my focus turned to window coverings. There was no question as to whom I would consult. Because of the window expanse, passive solar capability and proximity of neighboring homes choosing coverings that would provide sufficient privacy yet allow bountiful sunlight was a challenge effectively accomplished. As is obvious by now, I am most appreciative of the service and advice that leclair-hyett design provided. The amount that I spent was as quoted and very competitive. It has never been my aspiration to live in a "show piece" but that is what Catherine has created.

In addition to the specific project date listed below, I have called on Laurie's expert decorating advice several times over the past 10 years. I have also recommended Laurie to several friends, family members and colleagues who have been extremely happy with her excellent service. I love to decorate! I love design! I love Laurie! Laurie is a real pleasure to work with; she completely knows our tastes and we have loved everything she has suggested for us. We have been in our lovely new downtown home for about two years, and in that time, Laurie has helped us decorate our den, our hallway, our living room, and our master bedroom. When I said I want grey in the bedroom, she picked just the right grey. When I said I want a unique piece for the living room wall, she finds just the right one. Every light fixture she has suggested have been the ones we chose. Laurie is a real pleasure to work with. She is able to strike that perfect balance of professional and personal service. She always respects our budget and works within it. Laurie has incredible vision and can also clearly see mine. Laurie responds very quickly to emails and always shows up on time for appointments. Whenever a piece arrives, she personally comes over and makes sure it works perfectly in the space. We cannot imagine ever working with another designer. Laurie has us for life.

These days, I still refer to Catherine hyett as my decorating coach. When I decided to be my own General Contractor for a large renovation project that involved tearing out an overbearing stone fireplace and punching a hole in the house to install a new picture window and many other upgrades, I knew I would need guidance. I called upon Catherine hyett of leclair-hyett design. Her decorating and renovation advice as to colour and furniture choices, trades people and suppliers was first rate. But what made Catherine exceptional was her interest in and dedication to my project. She was there to provide support every step of the way and this made a huge impact on the success of our renovation. When I found myself overwhelmed and/or faced with a challenge, her speedy response to my calls, her calm approach to the matter and her ability to resolve issues quickly, was exactly the amount of support that I needed to get through those times. Now, there is seldom a day that goes by without my relaxing in our perfect living space and thanking the universe for sending Catherine my way.

If you are about to undertake a major house renovation, read this post! My wife and I decided to renovate our entire main floor- 5 rooms plus a laundry, main bathroom, and 2 hallways. A major project! We wanted something that "modernized" our house but still kept that country vibe and where everything flowed well from one room to another. My wife is great with colours and decorating, but the size of the project and concern about tying everything together made us realize that we needed some professional advice. Enter Laurie! First Laurie listens & discusses what you want/like or think you want. Second she establishes what is not negotiable for change (structure features, furniture, paintings, etc.). Third, she takes pictures. She goes away and then a few days later, she reappears with a plan. She outlines the plan and negotiates any of your concerns. She hands you a greeting card that has your paint pallet for all the rooms and trim. Laurie is a master at the subtle differences in colour! She also includes complementary colour swatches so you know what colour of curtains, throw pillows, rugs, etc you might want to purchase. All on greeting card ( you will carry this invaluable card around until it is dog-eared- trust us!) Follow Laurie's plan and you will be very happy with the result. Room colours flow together. Accessories you purchase actually compliment the room colours (providing you referred to Laurie's card!). Bottom line- You will consider her modest consultation fee money well spent! We highly recommend Laurie for your next home renovation! Five stars!

Catherine hyett advised us on decorating and furnishing our new apartment from April to August 2015. She advised us on window coverings, carpets, lighting, fans, flooring, shelving and cabinets, and helped us select and place a cabinet, chairs and nightstands. She dealt with the suppliers which relieved us from several hassles. She was always practical and reliable, respecting our needs and tastes, as well as our budget. Her remuneration was modest and was not connected to the products we bought - a great improvement over many decorators! Highest recommendation.

New start, new city! leclair-hyett design was the best recommendation I received. Working with Laurie was a dream. So professional, and such a good listener. Her advice was excellent, within my budget and to my particular taste. I couldn't have been more satisfied and will certainly call on her expertise again.

I consulted Catherine hyett at leclair-hyett when I moved into a brand new, west-facing condo with floor to ceiling windows. She was just fabulous to work with, accommodating, prompt, professional, and helped me choose the perfect blinds that protect from light and heat yet still offer a view of the beautiful church next door. I'm so happy with them!

Catherine also gave me great advice when I consulted with her on wall colours and a direction for decor. She listened carefully, asked the right questions, and came up with a plan that was exactly right for me - lean, clean, serene, and taking advantage of the beautiful light.

I can recommend her without any reservations, whatsoever. Thank you, Catherine!

When it was time to repaint the exterior of my 1850's frame house, I consulted Laurie leclair. She came to the house as part of her consultation and then provided me with 3 different options for colour. She also gave me excellent advice on product, including a primer that made a significant difference to the end result. She spent time with my painter to ensure he understood the application process for the primer and recommended the brand and quality of paint that I should use. As it turned out, I was leaving on vacation when everything started to come together for the job and she went the extra mile to make sure my painter was set up with both the primer and paint while I was away. She also came by the house to see the first coat of the primary colour being applied... to make sure it was just right. Laurie has a wealth of knowledge and an unbelievable aptitude for selecting colours that really work and is very knowledgeable about historic colors. When I was unable to source an appropriate screen door for my house, she was also able to recommend an excellent woodworker in Kingston who replicated my front screen door that needed to be replaced. She had also assisted me with interior colours for the same house in 2012 which transformed the look of my home. She is extremely respectful and a pleasure to work with. She is confident in her recommendations and I have learned to trust her instincts and knowledge. Although this was a relatively small job, she was highly attentive, thoughtful and responsive. I highly recommend her and have recommended her to many of my friends.

Ms leClair transformed my tired 1950's one story bungalow into a beautiful "california style" home. Her knowledge of style, building materials, furniture, fabrics and colour alleviated much of the stress of a major inside/outside renovation. I am most impressed by her contacts with local artisans who are experts in master carpentry, masonry and building restoration who can create or recreate building products which are unbelievably authentic. Not only Ms leClair's professional approach but her personal interest in my project made it an enjoyable experience for me.
